Mission giving

Update 3/4/20: We hope this video will help you see how we are responding during this Crisis, Since recording please find important updates about the service we are providing and how you can get in touch about practical donations.

During this Covid 19 crisis our priority is referring rough sleepers into Hotels and other accommodation in the City so that they can self-isolate and stay safe, ensuring they receive much needed food and toiletries, we hope you will join our plea for prayer and other support if possible.

Every day our team are cooking 300 meals; breakfasts, lunches and hot evening meals seven days a week to rough sleepers in accommodation.

In addition we’re also supporting 27 people with a history of street homelessness in private tenancies as part of our Barnabus Resettlement program. Our support team are in touch by phone offering food parcels and other practical items via co-ordinated deliveries. But also vitally as above encouraging and supporting them on the phone providing much needed mental, emotional and / or spiritual support to alleviate heightened anguish and fear.

Our Barnabus charity van is also out 5 days a week receiving and delivering food and essential health and hygiene items to people in accommodation.

If you can help with practical donations please don’t deliver those to our offices instead please email [email protected] or if you would like to make a £ donation please click on our donate button.

We pray you will be safe and give thanks for every gift, we believe this is a great opportunity to take our message of hope to those in need, thank you for supporting us, together we can transform Lives

God bless from all the team at Barnabus

We continue to see rising numbers of homeless people in crisis coming to Barnabus for help. Despite this rise, we are constantly uplifted and encouraged by those who choose to take positive steps to start a new life off the streets.

We have faith in the power of prayer to bring hope to those taking these steps. Our faith is vital to the work we do and your prayers can make a huge difference, too. That’s why we feel blessed to have so many friends at churches across the city and beyond.

Barnabus could not share the healing love of Jesus without the care and support we get from our fellow Christians. We are particularly thankful for Shere Church in Surrey, who sponsor our IT room. Whether it’s making sandwiches, leading a God Slot session or sponsoring our projects – we give thanks and praise to everybody who plays a part in the work we do.

Please download our prayer guides here. If you or your church would like to receive our prayer news and updates please sign up here, you can unsubscribe at any time.

Could you and your church support us? We’re always grateful for prayers, volunteers, help with our God Slot or financial support. Get in touch with Neil at [email protected] to find out more.

Matthew 25:35-40

‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Then they asked ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The Lord will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

    Lockdown Fundraising Ideas

Between the Lockdown restrictions and the cold wet weather of winter we will all be spending alot of time indoors for the next month. However this doesn't mean you can't get together with your family or housemates and even your friends (virtually) for some fun and raise life changing funds to support people experiencing homelessness.

Starting the year as we mean to go on

There is often a lot of help and support for people who spend the Christmas holiday on the streets. Sadly, though, this is usually short lived. Every year there is much less on offer on New Year’s Day, which is why we always try to ensure our doors a

Success finding our friend a new home during lockdown

In July,  Aimee, our Resettlement Worker, was able to house someone experiencing homelessness. This is doubly impressive as she has done this despite the challenges posed by COVID19 and in her first month back from maternity leave. Our outreach team first met this man when he was rough sleeping on Market Street in May during the peak of the Lockdown. Our support team were able to house him in temporary accommodation in the city.

    Rachel’s Story

Rachel came to Barnabus in September 2018. She had lost her job and the property she was living in was attached to her employment which made her homeless and destitute. She was very much out of her depth and did not know where she needed to go or what to do.

Our support team are still a lifeline through this lockdown

Stephen Rowley is our Head of Support; before the crisis he was supporting rough sleepers and people experiencing homelessness with one to one support at our Support Office and Drop in. During this lockdown he is now providing support on the phone to rough sleepers in hotels and tenants self isolating in our Resettlement project. He is also feeding back to the team any deliveries or practical support that may be needed.

  • Homelessness in Manchester

If you’ve walked the streets of Manchester, you’ve almost certainly passed by a rough sleeper. In fact, you’ve probably noticed that there are more people living and sleeping out on the streets. In 2010, the official rough sleeper figure was 7. In 2018, it was 94. Unfortunately, we know that in reality, the number is much higher. Please read on to find out more about homelessness in our city.
