This is what we hope will be a series of weekly reports about the allotment project at the Church of the Nazarene in Plymouth Grove, Longsight.
Our Allotment Project has been nurturing vegetables and social skills since 2010. Run with the help of the Church of Nazarene, the allotment gives our homeless friends a peaceful green space to relax, meet new people and enjoy looking after the garden.
This is the first of what we hope will be a series of weekly reports about the allotment project at the Church of the Nazarene in Plymouth Grove, Longsight.
The season started on Friday last week with tidying up the allotment. The greenhouse had a good clean out, the raised beds were weeded ready for sowing this season’s crops and the last of the winter leeks and broccoli were harvested.
Today was Good Friday and summer had come early, warm and sunny with a clear blue sky.
Today the forecast was for heavy showers! What a difference a week makes.
Today it was cold and wet! This time last year we spent loads of time carrying watering cans - no need for that at the moment!
Today we finally saw the sun for a Friday afternoon allotment session!
The allotment is very tidy as you can see from this picture and there’s lots growing.
