Corporate support

Offering your staff the opportunity to support Barnabus shows your commitment to the local community. This can have a positive impact not just on your staff and their morale, but also on consumers and how they see your company’s values. You can help through fundraising, donating practical pre-loved or new items, or even via payroll giving. We also accept donations of any surplus products or goods you may have. You could also get your employees involved by asking them to bring in items from home.

Perhaps you’d like a team of employees to come and help at one of our projects or events. Or, maybe you have talents, products or services that would help us out - corporate support isn't just about money.

It’s important that your employees can connect with us on a level that works for them. We celebrate that everyone has something different to offer, and we want our supporters to feel part of what we’re doing – it’s important to know that with their support, we can help our homeless friends rebuild their lives.

Some companies also encourage their staff to hold fundraising events, and many will match-fund their efforts. Companies can also choose to donate food for the breakfast sessions at our Drop-in Centre, or even to hold skilled activity sessions that help to upskill and provide some light relief for our homeless friends. Corporate volunteering

We’re delighted to say that in 2019 over 60 companies took part in our corporate volunteering days, and we’re now hosting groups 2-3 times each week. For many of the employees involved, it completely changes their perception of homelessness and is a great team building experience. Read more

This is why we work hard to make the Beacon a welcoming place

At Barnabus, we work hard to make our centre a welcoming place – one where the people who visit can trust us to always look out for their best interests. We build the Beacon in a way that best supports our friends on their journey away from the streets and into a home of their own. But sometimes, it can be lifesaving too. Here’s how…

  • Helping our friends overcome abuse

    Helping our friends overcome abuse

The people who Barnabus supports are often very vulnerable and can fall victim to various forms of abuse. Just recently, we helped two men who had faced two different types of abuse: Glen* and Keith*. Here, we explain how we were able to help Glen and Keith overcome their challenges, learn skills to avoid future abuse, and continue on their path to recovery.

Prison visits prevent inmates from ending up on the streets

At Barnabus, we work closely with the prison service and related organisations to support people who have been – or are just about to be released from – prison. Whether they’ve lost touch with family and friends or are unable to organise it themselves, many people leave prison without a fixed address or accommodation plans. This most often leads directly to homelessness. We work hard to prevent this before it happens.

  • New Home – New Future

    New Home – New Future

New Homes - New Future will enable us to have our very own supported property to promote recovery and independence for people who need more intensive support to learn how to thrive in a home. Empowering people who have been homeless to rebuild their lives and break free from the cycle of homelessness; to take hold of their dreams for the future and thrive in a home of their own.

  • Homelessness in Manchester

If you’ve walked the streets of Manchester, you’ve almost certainly passed by a rough sleeper. In fact, you’ve probably noticed that there are more people living and sleeping out on the streets. In 2010, the official rough sleeper figure was 7. In 2018, it was 94. Unfortunately, we know that in reality, the number is much higher. Please read on to find out more about homelessness in our city.

  • Our history

    Our history

It all started in 1991 with one man, some sandwiches and a flask of hot coffee. Walking the streets of Manchester, our founder Peter Green could not believe that there were people on his doorstep who had nothing. So, with a little help from his Christian faith, he set out to do something. Luckily, Peter and his wife Beryl had plenty of love – and sandwiches – to share.

That’s why our team is there to help from the start, giving tailored support and advice every single step of the way.
