Entry to this event has now closed.

Barnabus organ marthon

St Luke’s Church in Holmes Chapel supported their accomplished church organist Christine Jones in an incredible fundraising challenge. Christine has been playing the organ for almost 70 years and at 82 years old she made the decision to undertake a remarkable personal challenge, to raise much needed funds for our centre. Christine played the organ for a Marathon 14 hours from 6.30am to 8.30pm in the evening, finishing off the day with a rousing “Last Night of the Proms” finale!

Christine raised a phenomenal £2,254.00

We have been greatly inspired by Christine’s tremendous energy and desire to help the homeless. We met Christine when one of our team was invited to share about Barnabus at a service in St Luke’s Church. Christine was deeply moved by our work and decided there and then that she wanted to do something to help.

The event itself was fantastic; during the day St Luke’s church provided refreshments for people wanting to join in the fun. In the evening, friends, church family, local businesses and even the local MP Fiona Bruce came to offer their support. The church was full of people waving flags and banners, joining in with songs such as Land of Hope and Glory for a rousing “Last Night of the Proms” finale - a fitting close to a tremendous day.

See Christine’s Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/organplayingmarathon and interview in the Sandbach Chronicle to find out why she was so inspired.
